A workshop on Cascading Impacts of Heatwaves, organized by CROSS-CASCADE TG1.8 in collaboration with the Environmental Health Research Group at the Czech University of Life Sciences, took place in Prague on 3-4 September 2026. The two-day event brought together 29 researchers, including students and early-career researchers, to discuss the effects of climate change and heatwaves on human health and wellbeing across different sectors. Topics included heat-related mortality and morbidity, infectious-disease transmission, migration, and impacts on transportation and industry.
The workshop featured lectures, a poster session, and participatory activities aimed at co-designing follow-up research activities.
The workshop was supported by the ERC CZ project CLARA (“Impact of Climate Change on Seasonal Variations in Mortality”), funded by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic. The participation of Dr Veronika Huber and Prof. Simon Gosling was supported by COST Action CA24163, CROSS-CASCADE.
